Abiomed gets EU approval to market another product

Abiomed Inc. has obtained European marketing approval for a new device that helps support an ailing heart.
The Danvers, Mass., company (Nasdaq: ABMD) said on Tuesday that the new approval for its portable circulatory support driver system will allow it to be sold in all European Union countries as well as other nations globally that recognize decisions by the European regulators.
The device is designed to help run Abiomed's AB500 device that helps assist an ailing heart.
In the U.S., Abiomed is still seeking U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for its portable driver.
Abiomed may be best known for its AbioCor artificial heart, but the company has pursued development in recent years of products that help aide in the function of an ailing heart.
